The Dances of Universal Peace are a moving meditation practice involving simple dance movements and music shared in a circle. A dance leader, supported by musicians, teaches participants a chant and movements. Soon, the circle is singing and moving together, deepening into the meditation. The dances offer a joyous and multi-cultural way to touch the spiritual essence within, share heartfelt connection with others and experience deep inner peace.

Sunday, October 4th at the Rossland Miners' Hall will mark the world premiere screening for the locally filmed and produced documentary Greening the Cube: 100-Mile Housing.

Filmed throughout the West Kootenays, Boundary Region, and Greater Vancouver over the past two years, the upcoming features (3pm and 7pm, October 4th at the Miners Hall) mark the first such public screening for director/producer Tyler Austin Bradley and cinematographer Andrea Vandenboer’s documentary on green-building.

Come to the plaza in front of Nelson City Hall at noon on Friday, October 16 and join millions of people worldwide as they stand up against poverty and pledge to take action. Last year, 116 million people from all over the world participated, setting a world record for the most number of people ever to stand up for a cause. Join us again this year as we try to break this record.

Speakers will include Alex Atamenenko, MP, and Julia Roberts of the Nelson Stand for Housing Group. There will also be a table with information about what people can do to help end poverty. Ariah’s Edible Creations will provide hot soup for lunch. Bring banners and placards with messages about poverty and homelessness.

The Nelson Food Cupboard Society, with support from the Kootenay Coop, NDCU and Save-On Foods, will be hosting a fundraiser dinner for World Food Day where guests participate in displaying the inequalities existing globally in relation to food.

Upon their arrival, guests will be randomly assigned to either the small percent receiving a full-course vegetarian meal or the larger percent who receive a simple meal of beans and rice. Guest speakers will discuss both global and local food issues. The movie Fresh, which highlights the many ways in which one can become involved in positive change, will be shown at 8:00 p.m.

Annual art event at The Langham Cultural Centre in Kaslo. This is a chance to strut your stuff in your best formal attire and mix and mingle with some of Kaslo's most talented artists and musicians. Following Nelson Youth Theatre’s fantastic hit, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” tells the harvest tale of schoolmaster Ichabod Crane, and his Hallowe’en night encounter with the infamous Headless Horseman. Starring talented youth actors aged 7-15, this student version of Washington Irving’s literary classic, adapted by Kathryn Schultz-Miller, is a spookily fun good time - intended for youth and adults alike!

Admission is by donation at the South Nelson Elementary gym stage!

Our 6th annual Taste of Nelson is a gala evening where local area restaurants provide us with small portions of their signature dish for your tasting pleasure! There will also be a cash bar once you've tried our coffee, beer and wine samples.

Honouring a promise made to not allow the world to forget their voices, Nelson resident, Hannah Hadikin, will report on her visit to Gaza in March of this year, just 2 months after the Israeli military operation. The presentation will focus on the lives of children and families, in the aftermath.

Selkirk Music students return by popular demand. Tyler Toews, who recently returned from touring with Miss Quincy and the Ramblers and Mike Buckley, who amazed us with his great voice. Rounding out this session will be Kyla Hanna with her first show at Ellison's. She was on the Soundvibes 07 CD and recently entertained at Cottonwood Falls Market. They're all good songwriter's and we'll hear good covers as well.

JEWELLERY: INTO THE THIRD DIMENSION
Use your creativity to design a fabulous piece of jewellery and see it form before your eyes in the amazing hydraulic press. Learn design techniques, make dyes and how to operate the hydraulic press. Intro. to Jewellery or equivalent is a prerequisite for this course.

This Halloween, in Nelson B.C.there will be a FREE, all ages, Lantern and costume parade. This is an event for everyone. We will be meeting at the Mountain Station Parking lot (Gore and Cherry St) at 6:30. Procession to head out at 6:45 so don't be late! Bring your home-made or bought lanterns and come for a lit up wander through Nelson's most Hallow night.


Music provided by the Movong Mosaic Samba Band.
