On this day, communities around the world honour and commemorate those lost to AIDS and those who continue to live with the effects of HIV/AIDS. Around 40 million people are living with HIV throughout the world and that number increases every day. Ignorance, poverty and stigma are fuelling the spread of this preventable disease. The theme of this year's World AIDS Day is human rights. Plese join us on December 1st at the Nelson United Church for a service conducted by Rev David Boyd, with musical guests, Aspen Switzer and the One World Choir.

Dec. 6th marks the 20th Anniversary of the mass murder of 14 women at Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal. The Nelson VAWIR Committee (made up of representation from Nelson Community Services Centre (Aimee Beaulieu Transition House and Women's Outreach programs), Nelson Women's Centre, The Advocacy Centre, Nelson Police Department, Victim Services, Probation, MCFD, Crown and RCMP) invite you to visit the marker at Lakeside Park (near the concession in the soccer fields)and take a moment to remember women and children who have been victims of domestic violence, take a moment of silence or lay a flower at the marker. If you're unable to visit the marker, light a candle at home and remember...

The Dances of Universal Peace are a moving meditation practice involving simple dance movements and music shared in a circle. A dance leader, supported by musicians, teaches participants a chant and movements. Soon, the circle is singing and moving together, deepening into the meditation. The dances offer a joyous and multi-cultural way to touch the spiritual essence within, share heartfelt connection with others and experience deep inner peace.

No experience or partner is required – the dances are easy to learn and are taught to the whole group each time. Bring non-marking indoor shoes and a water bottle. By donation.

Classes are designed to release aches and pains, strengthen the body, learn breathing techniques for relaxation and labour preparation and most importantly connect with other women in a safe and supportive atmosphere.

It’s official: 535 Baker Street is now all things photography with the opening of Gogh Van Custom Framing and the expansion of services at Kokanee Camera Co.
