CIEL Hosts Open House Prior to 100 Mile Ideas Diet
NELSON- The Centre for Innovative and Entrepreneurial Leadership is hosting a community-wide open house to celebrate the final 100 Mile Ideas Diet conversation café and engage the public in the community-led development work they do. Set for July 16th from 5:30 until 6:30, the open house will feature a slideshow of CIEL’s work with communities, computer workstations to engage the public with CIEL tools, refreshments, and lots of information about how CIEL looks into innovation and entrepreneurship with communities.CIEL, a Nelson-based not-for-profit, has done work in seven Canadian provinces, the US and Australia. It has planning processes that help communities measure and improve business friendliness, quality of life, and most recently, community sustainability. CIEL was also contracted by the government of Canada to develop a leadership program for rural communities. In 2008, CIEL won the KAST (Koootenay Association for Science & Technology) award for Innovative Organization.
The open house will segue into a conversation café, which begins at 7:00 at Oso Negro. Coined “Open Source Innovation: Technology and
Social Movements,” the event features 40 minutes of presentations from Delyse Sylvester, Bill Metcalfe, Tom Clegg and Michelle Laurie. Following 40 minutes of presentations, participants have the opportunity to break into discussion groups using the world café format, a format that allows ideas and networks to progressively build as people move to new discussion groups.
