New Artist Collective Gallery Soon to Open in Castlegar

Artists are needed to join a new collective art gallery in Castlegar! This new up coming art gallery is the brain child of Kootenay artist Karla Pearce. It  is called The Creative Edge after Pearce’s long standing arts column and radio/ television feature that has been a Kootenay Cultural main stay for the last ten years. The Creative Edge Gallery will showcase the brilliant talents and the creative diversity of the artists living and working in Castlegar and the surrounding area.

Pearce says, ” I have always known that there are a lot of artists out here but it wasn’t until recently that I realized how many there are hiding in these beautiful surroundings. Many professional Castlegar artists take their work to surrounding art hubs and galleries to show because there is simply not enough year round exposure in Castlegar. On the other side I have heard from many potential art clients and patrons that they would like to purchase locally but are forced to look outside of the community for art that specifically deals with this area. ”

The Creative Edge Art Galley intends to mediate this gap, providing local artists and local art patrons a comfortable place to meet and connect.

” It is my hope to create a space where artists can not only show their work , but be represented by the gallery that they are a part of, says Pearce”. “The idea is a space where people can work, teach, create and make a living from doing what they love. After all isn’t that the reason why we got into art in the first place.”

The Creative Edge Gallery is looking for eight artists to join it’s collective. Artists working in the disciplines of painting, glass, fibre, jewelery, ceramics, photography and sculpture are invited to apply. This is a cost sharing collective with no consignees and all artist that are accepted receive 90% of their sales. The cost of membership is $90 per month.

All interested artists please apply to Creative Edge Gallery Director Karla Pearce at art@karlapearce.com  or phone 250-365-2032.
