November 16, 2009 – Greg Osadchuk is one of the Kootenay region’s mostImage By Greg
talented landscape photographers and on November 20th he will launch
an exclusive showing of his work at Nelson’s Elephant Mountain
Gallery. The wine and cheese party will begin at 6:00 pm Friday night
and will include a meet and greet with the gifted photographer
himself.

Greg was born in Trail and has lived around B.C. and in California,
where he studied industrial/scientific photography. He returned to
Vancouver in 1979 to work in the photo department of The Province
newspaper and then moved back to the Kootenays in 1993 to concentrateTree on Bank
on teaching and shooting landscapes. “Most of my career involved
photographing people, man-made structures, or events,” Greg says. “The
landscape work evolved as a pleasant summer diversion away from the
work that I was doing to make a living.”

Since that time Greg has travelled extensively in the region
photographing the diverse environment here and has had many adventures
along the way. In fact, a few of the images that will be in his
upcoming show were 10 years in the making due to an epic journey on
top of the Opabin Plateau in Yoho National Park. It was the end of
September, 1999, and he had hiked up to the plateau to photograph the
fall colours. Suddenly a blizzard descended and he was caught in
near-whiteout conditions. “It was so cold a clamp on my tripod cracked
and my large format camera tumbled to the ground,” he says. “Luckily I
lunged and rescued it. “

This past September Greg recreated that trip and “the weather was a
lot more cooperative, allowing about a day and a half of fantastic
light and some wonderful photography between two severe storm fronts.”
Some of the images from that trip will be on display at his upcoming
show.

Everyone is invited to Greg’s launch party at Elephant Mountain
Gallery, 535 Baker Street in Nelson on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009 starting
at 6:00 pm.
